About Cheyenne Park
Located south of Colorado Springs lies a former ranch turned State Park. This park provides prairie to peak nature at this 2,701-acre setting beneath the eastern flank of Cheyenne Mountain. Twenty-three miles of mostly moderate hiking and biking trails lead visitors from prairie grasslands through a foothills transition zone of Gambel oak and ponderosa pine/Douglas fr. After that, an additional 6.7 miles of trails rated difficult to extreme. The natural habitats are remarkably undisturbed, providing exceptional wildlife viewing. Visitors may have sightings of coyotes, foxes, elk, deer, black bears, prairie dogs, bobcats, golden eagles, red-tailed hawks, and wild turkeys. There are more than 100 species of birds to watch.
Pets are allowed on approximately 2 miles of trails, and smoking is strictly prohibited on all trails to protect the park’s spectacular natural landscape. Sign up for a guided nature hike or a mystery hike, and enjoy geocaching or attend an interpretive program at the visitor’s center. — Back to All State Parks.
